As a word nerd, I’m delighted to report the recent proliferation of news about words. As a writer and editor, I’m always examining words – where they come from, why an author chose one over another, which word will give just the right emphasis to an argument or a product plug.

A Legacy of Service

I toggle between multiple news outlets to get a good variety of daily headlines, and a story on the local Fox affiliate in Boise caught my attention for a bittersweet reason.

It prompted me to learn more about the Civil Air Patrol, the nonprofit civilian auxiliary for the U.S. Air Force.
