Learning…and Learning…

So, I’ve shared with you that my goal in the New Year has been to learn or try something new every week. Here’s an update:

I’ve taken classes in genealogy, writing short stories, fighting writer’s block, doing voiceover work and clutter-free living. (I signed up for a class on making focaccia – and showed up along with 20 other folks – but the instructor was a no-show. Does that count?)

I’ve attended an Idaho Writers Guild luncheon and an investment club meeting. I’ve sought out some new financial advice, gone to a poetry reading and applied for two new freelance gigs. I got a nice change of scene and a break from the Idaho winter, visiting my aunt and seeing some new sights in Arizona.

And I updated my iPhone – yes, for me, this most definitely qualifies as “learning something new.”

How’s it going so far? One word: exhausting! I suppose I also should mention the results have been mixed. The six-week short-story workshop took a lot of time and was a pleasant experience, but I finished without a clue about whether it’s a type of writing I want to pursue. The voiceover class was fun, but turned out to be a thinly-veiled come-on for an expensive series of coaching services.

The good news is, I’m learning! Today, in fact, I’m heading over to Tribute Media – the company that designed this website – for a workshop on fine-tuning it and making my own changes when needed.

With continued stamina, I’ll keep checking out new experiences. Wish me luck!
