I have a bilingual friend who works as a teachers’ aide for grades K-6. She was thinking about what to do for the kids for Valentine’s Day, and I came up with the idea of a “vocabulary valentine,” seen in the photo.
We had fun making them this weekend.
She’ll ask each student to describe their heart – either the one inside their chest, or the chocolate one on the card – in Spanish and English.
It’s a good exercise for anyone on Valentine’s Day, I think. The holiday may have been commandeered by florists, chocolatiers and greeting-card purveyors, but I love having a day set aside to remind people how much they mean to you.
So, my heart is…
Thrilled to have a few people who truly love me and know how to show it – often in sweet, unexpected ways.
Grateful for meaningful and interesting work, with sufficient income to pay the bills, plus handle the occasional emergency and/or splurge.
Happy to keep learning and challenging myself.
How would you describe your heart today?
